Madhya Pradesh : Major accident averted in Omkareshwar Jyotirling Temple , Bridge will remain closed

Khandwa : In Madhya Pradesh’s pilgrimage Omkareshwar, a wire of the suspension bridge built on the Narmada River broke. Administrative and NHDC officials have stopped the traffic on the suspension bridge. As a precaution, both the gates of the suspension bridge have been closed. According to SDM Chander Singh, the suspension bridge is handed over to NHDC. Their engineer has inspected the spot.

The suspension bridge will be fixed by Mahashivratri. This bridge connects Brahmapuri to Shivpuri. Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. That’s why lakhs of devotees from all over the state and the country gather on Mahashivratri. Just before this festival, there was a stir when the wire of the Jhula bridge of Tirthanagari broke. SDM, police and other officers reached the spot.

First of all, both the gates of the bridge were closed. The wire of the swing was broken from the entry gate, about half of the wire broke and fell into the river. The same General Manager of NHDC has said that from time to time, according to the load capacity of the suspension bridge, a letter has been written to the administration for entry at the time of rush. During festivals the pressure of excessive crowd overwhelms the suspension bridge. After informing the administration, according to the load capacity, it would be appropriate to leave the crowd from the jam bridge. Stabilization will be possible only after repairing the broken wire of gambling bridge. Till then the suspension bridge will remain closed for general visitors.
