Dehradun Jolly Grand Airport in Uttarakhand will be named after former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In this regard, the Doon Airport Advisory Committee had made a proposal in this regard and sent it to the Central Government. Airport Advisory Committee member Rajeev Talwar proposed to change the name of Doon Airport to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Airport Dehradun, which has been accepted by all the members.
Haridwar constituency MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that Atalji is like the father of the state of Uttarakhand, to keep his memory alive the airport will be named Atal Bihari Vajpayee Airport. There is no other airport of this name in the country, the proposal to name AIIMS Rishikesh in his honor was also accepted.
Dr. Nishank said that a proposal has been sent to the Union Civil Aviation Minister in the hope that a decision will be taken soon.
