Kerala Doctor Stabbed to Death by Patient, Sparking Shock and Outrage

A 23-year-old doctor in Kerala, Vandana Das, was tragically stabbed to death at a hospital in Kottarakkara by a man she was treating. The attacker, identified as Sandeep, had been brought to the hospital by the police after a fight with his family members. He suddenly turned violent while his leg wound was being dressed and attacked everyone present with a pair of scissors and a scalpel.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in the unfortunate demise of Dr. Vandana Das. The doctor bore the brunt of the attack, and even the accompanying police personnel sustained injuries. Despite being rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, she could not be saved and succumbed to her injuries.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolences and assured a thorough investigation into the matter. The assault on healthcare workers was deemed unacceptable, and the government pledged to take strong action against such attacks. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) staged protests across the state, demanding exemplary punishment for those responsible and improved security measures in hospitals.

The tragic incident sparked a political debate, with opposition parties criticizing the state government’s handling of the safety of healthcare workers. Union Minister V Muraleedharan expressed shock and concern, highlighting the need for a safer environment for doctors and healthcare workers in Kerala. The medical fraternity called for urgent measures to prevent such incidents in the future, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding those who save lives.
