While taking bath on this day, one has to observe the rules of fasting by keeping silence. Today is the third Shahi Snan of Magh Mela, that’s why a crowd of devotees is being seen in Prayagraj since morning. It is also said that one who bathes in the Ganges on Amavasya attains merit equivalent to that of Ashwamedh Yagya.

Devotees have gathered in Prayagraj to take bath on Mauni Amavasya, the great festival of faith. A crowd of believers is visible on the ghats. Thousands of devotees have come to take a dip in the triangular confluence on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya of Magh month.

The new moon of Magh month is called Mauni Amavasya, but this time coincidentally this new moon has come today i.e. on Saturday, hence it is also being called Shanishchari Amavasya. On the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, the number of devotees in the Triangular Sangam can be gauged from these pictures. A large number of devotee took bath and offered prayers.

On the new moon day, there is a law to bathe in the ‘Holy Sangam’ and do charity. On this day, by bathing in the ‘Holy Sangam’ and doing charity, all the sufferings of a person end and he becomes debt free. Means the fear of premature death also ends from inside him and he attains salvation. According to religious beliefs, the deities reside in the ‘Holy Sangam’ on this day, hence ‘Ganga Snan’ or bathing at ‘holy pilgrimage sites’ is considered to be of special importance on this day.
