Suryakumar becomes ICC T20 player of the year, first Indian to achieve this feat

India’s explosive batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been selected as the ICC Men’s T20 Player of the Year. He has become the first Indian batsman to achieve this feat. The International Cricket Council (ICC) made this announcement on Wednesday. England batsman Sam Curran, Pakistani wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan and Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza were also among the contenders for this ICC title.

Suryakumar is also the highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals in the year 2022. He scored 1164 runs in 31 matches at a strike rate of 187.43. Which includes two centuries and 9 half-centuries. He has become the second batsman to score more than 1000 runs in a year in this format. Before him, Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan had scored 1326 runs in 26 innings in 2021. Along with this, Surya also hit 68 T20 sixes in 2022. Which is the highest in a year in this format.

Surya’s highest strike rate was 189.9 in the T20 World Cup held in Australia in October-November last year. He scored 239 runs in the tournament. He was the third highest run scorer in the World Cup. Virat Kohli is on top with 296 runs. Surya had scored 3 half-centuries in the tournament.

While Team India has become the No. 1 ODI team in the world by sweeping New Zealand 3-0, now Team India’s speed star Mohammad Siraj has become the No. 1 ODI bowler in the world. In the latest ICC rankings on Wednesday, Siraj reached the first place with 729 points.

Siraj overtook Australia’s Josh Hazlewood (727 points) and New Zealand’s Trent Boult (708 points) in the latest rankings. Now Josh Hazlewood has reached the second and Trent Boult third place. Apart from Siraj, Shubman Gill, who is running in strong form, has also made a big jump in the rankings. With a jump of 20 places in the rankings, Gill is now at the sixth position with 734 points. Gill has scored three centuries in the last four ODIs. In the 3 ODI series against New Zealand, Shubman Gill has scored 360 runs at an average of 180.
