Around 40 medical colleges in India have recently lost their recognition for failing to meet the standards set by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

According to official sources, an additional 100 medical colleges in states like Puducherry, Gujarat, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu are also at risk of losing recognition due to non-compliance with NMC standards. Even a century-old medical college in Arunachal Pradesh has faced the consequences of the NMC’s crackdown.

The action was taken due to non-compliance with norms, including faculty and security camera (CCTV) lapses. Some doctors have raised concerns about these institutions’ non-compliance and other deficiencies by writing to the Union Health Ministry.
