Air India : Air India on Thursday said that the flight coming from Newark will operate a special flight to Stockholm due to the Swedish capital being diverted on Wednesday. Let us tell you that the Boeing 777-300 coming from Newark to Delhi was diverted to Stockholm on Wednesday due to oil leakage from the engine.
An Air India spokesperson said that the Boeing 777 aircraft would be departed from Mumbai at around 2 pm and would reach Stockholm at 11 pm Indian time to bring the stranded passengers to Stockholm. He told that the special aircraft will take off from Stockholm at around 1 am IST and reach Delhi at 8 am IST on Friday morning. The Newark to Delhi flight had 292 passengers including eight infants, 15 crew members and four pilots.
The plane made an emergency landing at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport. Late on Wednesday, an Air India spokesperson had said that the airline is in discussion with the Swedish authorities to grant immigration clearance to some of the passengers who are still at the airport. A senior official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Wednesday that one of the aircraft’s engines was leaking oil, due to which it was shut down. He told that later the plane made an emergency landing in Stockholm
Air India issues statement
“Air India’s flight AI 106 from Newark to Delhi faced a technical issue and was diverted to Stockholm early this morning with 284 pax and 8 infants on board. The flight landed safely at the Stockholm airport. Passengers have been provided lounge access and meals. The immigration procedure of the passengers is being carried out to ensure their stay at the city’s hotels. Meanwhile, the aircraft is being thoroughly checked to address the technical issue,” read a statement by the airlines.
