Bhopal : Students will get Honors with Research degree from Barkatullah University (BU). Under the new education policy, BU will also prepare a separate plan for PhD. According to the university officials, it will take four years for the UG students to get the Honors with Research degree.
According to the guidelines of the University Grants Commission, candidates with a four-year bachelor’s degree can directly pursue PhD and will not need a master’s degree. For the Honors with Research degree, students will also have to do 12 credits of project work along with the graduation degree. As per UGC, students who want to graduate in three years have to obtain 120 credits.
As per the UGC has notified the syllabus and credit structure for undergraduate programmes, which will provide multiple options for entry and exit to the students. The format has been developed by modifying the existing Choice Based Credit System. As per the programme, students will be able to pursue only a four-year honors degree instead of a three-year course as at present. Honors degree will also be awarded in two categories, Honors and Honors with Research.
Two PhD guides are necessary for awarding the degree
For Honors with Research, students must have 7.9 CGPA i.e. 75 percent marks. Only those colleges will be able to get this degree. There are over a dozen guides in BU. In such a situation, students will be able to take this degree easily from there.
Research Honors Degree Option
If a student wants to do research specialization in Curriculum, then a research project has to be started in the four year course. Honors degree with research specialization. Students get Honors degree after completing three years UG course. SK Jain, Vice Chancellor, Barkatullah University says that whatever is appropriate in the interest of the students will be done. Honors with Research students will have to conduct research under the guidance of a faculty member of the university or college.
