Ayesha Jhulka Reveals Why She Quit Films, Aspires for More Than Just Glamour

In a recent interview, renowned Bollywood actress Ayesha Jhulka shed light on her decision to step away from the silver screen, calling it a conscious choice. The actress, known for her roles in films like “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar” (1992) and “Himmatwala” (1998), expressed her desire to contribute meaningfully to projects and be recognized for her acting prowess. Ayesha, who made her comeback in 2022 with Tanuja Chandra’s web series “Hush Hush,” spoke candidly about her journey in the industry.

During her initial years in Bollywood, Ayesha shared that her roles primarily revolved around the typical song-and-dance routines, being romanced by the hero, and looking beautiful. While she had nothing against the opportunities presented to her, she felt that she was being typecast and offered similar roles repeatedly. Being perceived as a glam girl may suffice for newcomers, but Ayesha believed that as she progressed in her career, she wanted to be acknowledged for her acting skills and not just her appearance.

The actress explained that she yearned for roles that would allow her to add value and explore her potential as a performer. However, when she felt like a mere prop in projects, devoid of opportunities to showcase her acting abilities, she realized it was time to step away. Ayesha emphasized that every actress aspires for growth and an upgrade, aiming to be recognized for their acting prowess. The repetitive nature of the cinema she was involved in no longer satisfied her artistic hunger, leading her to take a break from acting and explore other avenues.

Ayesha Jhulka recently starred in the web series “Happy Family: Conditions Apply” alongside talented actors such as Raj Babbar, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Atul Kulkarni. The comedy series, consisting of 10 episodes, premiered on Prime Video on March 10. Directed by Aatish Kapadia and JD Majethia, the show also features a stellar cast including Sanah Kapur, Meenal Sahu, Raunaq Kamdar, and others. Ayesha’s return to the screen reflects her continued passion for acting and her quest to find roles that tap into her potential as a versatile performer.
