Kerala got its first transgender lawyer after Padma Lakshmi was enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of the state. Padma Lakshmi graduated from Ernakulam Government Law College. After graduation, she attempted for the Bar Council examination.
As per Rajeev, Lakshmi was among over 1,500 law graduates who received their Bar enrolment certificates at a Bar Council of India event on Sunday, March 19.
“Congratulations to Padma Lakshmi, who overcame all the hurdles of life and enrolled as the first transgender advocate in Kerala. Becoming the first is always the hardest achievement in history. There are no predecessors on the way to the goal. Obstacles will be inevitable. There will be people to mute and discourage. Padma Lakshmi has written her name in the legal history by overcoming all this,” Rajeev’s post read.The post received positive comments across the board, with users praising Lakshmi’s hard work and struggle.
Lakshmi’s enrolment comes six years after Joyita Mondal was appointed as India’s first transgender just in Lok Adalat of Islampur in West Bengal in 2017.
