Australia to Open New Consul-General in Bengaluru this Month, Strengthening Bilateral Ties with India

In a significant development, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced the opening of a new Consul-General in Bengaluru this month. This decision comes in response to India’s plan to establish a consulate in Brisbane, reflecting the efforts of both countries to enhance their bilateral relationship.

During his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Albanese highlighted that the new diplomatic mission in Bengaluru will facilitate connections between Australian businesses and India’s thriving digital and innovation ecosystem. This move will strengthen the already existing four diplomatic missions in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata.

Additionally, the leaders exchanged Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on mobility, migration, and the establishment of a green hydrogen task force. They discussed the upcoming G20 Summit and reaffirmed their dedication to further strengthening the friendship and partnership between Australia and India.

Prime Minister Albanese’s multiple meetings with Prime Minister Modi over the past year exemplify the importance both countries place on fostering closer ties. The launch of the Centre for Australia-India Relations, based in Parramatta, Western Sydney, further demonstrates their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across government, industry, academia, and the community.

The visit of Prime Minister Modi to Australia has solidified the close relationship and strategic alliance between the two nations. This strengthened partnership holds great potential for trade, investment, regional security, and stability.

Prime Minister Modi also engaged in discussions with Governor General David Hurley and Leader of Opposition Peter Dutton, focusing on strengthening people-to-people connections and fortifying the longstanding bilateral partnership.
