In a recent development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at the residences and offices of two aides of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh. The searches are connected to the controversial liquor excise policy in Delhi, which has now been cancelled.
Singh, addressing the media, condemned the raids as a manifestation of “Modi dictatorship at its peak.” He criticized the ED for targeting his colleagues after finding no incriminating evidence during a previous search at his own residence. The AAP echoed Singh’s sentiments, alleging harassment by the central investigative agency and citing a defamation notice issued against them.

According to media reports, the searches targeted individuals who allegedly benefitted from the liquor policy. The case is related to revisions made in the 2021/22 liquor excise policy under the direction of former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail. The allegations suggest that undue favors were granted to licensees as a result of these revisions.
Earlier this month, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal criticized the ED after Singh claimed to have received a letter from the agency admitting that his name was included in the chargesheet “by mistake.” Kejriwal expressed disbelief at such an error and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to defame the AAP, which he hailed as the “most honest party.”
Singh has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has alleged a political conspiracy behind the charges against him. Raghav Chadha, another AAP leader, had also denied reports suggesting his involvement in the case.
