Manipur Violence: Union Minister RK Ranjan Singh’s Residence in Imphal Attacked And Set Ablaze with Petrol Bombs

Union Minister RK Ranjan Singh’s house in Imphal, Manipur was attacked and set on fire by a mob late Thursday night. The incident occurred amidst the ongoing ethnic violence in the region.

Fortunately, the minister and his family were not present at the house during the attack. Singh, who was in Kerala for official work, confirmed that no injuries were reported but significant damage was done to his home by unidentified miscreants who used petrol bombs.

The violence in Manipur escalated further on Thursday, with clashes between protesters and security personnel resulting in the burning down of two houses belonging to a specific community. This incident follows the tragic event two days ago, where nine people were killed and ten others were injured.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh assured that the government is actively engaged in discussions and will take necessary action against those responsible for the violence. While it may not be easy to predict an immediate improvement in the situation, the incidents of violence have been decreasing in the state.

The violence in Manipur began in early May after clashes erupted during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) against the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.

The Manipur High Court had instructed the state government to consider this inclusion. To address the situation, Home Minister Amit Shah visited Manipur for four days and announced various measures aimed at restoring peace. The state government extended the internet ban in Manipur until June 15 due to the prevailing circumstances.
