The Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat train is set to become the fastest train between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Madgaon, covering the 586 km distance in just 7 hours and 50 minutes from both sides.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off the train at around 11 am on Saturday, marking the inauguration of the fifth Vande Bharat train in Maharashtra and the first in Goa.
The train will have seven commercial stops at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Khed, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, and Thivim, while a technical halt will take place at Roha without allowing boarding or deboarding.
With an average speed of 75 kmph, the Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat train will operate six days a week, excluding Fridays, providing a fully AC travel experience.
The train’s sectional speed will reach up to 120 kmph, with speeds of 105 kmph on the CSMT-Diva stretch, 110 kmph on the Diva-Roha stretch (both falling under Central Railways), and 120 kmph on the Roha-Madgaon stretch (Konkan Railway).
The introduction of this train aims to ease the passenger load on the Mumbai-Goa route, which experiences high demand due to tourism and commercial activities.
Mumbai will now have a total of four Vande Bharat trains, serving destinations including Gandhinagar, Shirdi, Solapur, and Madgaon, while Maharashtra will have a total of five Vande Bharat trains, including the Nagpur-Bilaspur route.
The Ministry of Railways has focused on producing and delivering these semi-high-speed indigenous trains since April 1, with eight pairs of Vande Bharat trains inaugurated during this two-month period.
