Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to unveil India’s splendid new Parliament building on May 28, 2023. This remarkable structure is a shining example of the visionary Central Vista project.
The foundation stone for this extraordinary architectural marvel was laid by PM Modi on December 10, 2020. Initially planned for completion by October 2022, the project faced delays due to various reasons.

Spread across an impressive area of about 65,000 square meters, the new Parliament building exudes power and elegance. Here are some fascinating details about this architectural gem:
- Striking Design: The new Parliament building boasts a unique triangular shape that maximizes space utilization. Its innovative design ensures a lifespan of over 150 years, combining aesthetics with functionality.
- Impressive Composition: Within the grand walls of this iconic structure, you will find the esteemed Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Central Hall Joint Session, Central Lounge, Constitutional Hall, and several offices that form the heart of our democracy.
- Constructed by Tata Projects: The construction of this grand project was entrusted to Tata Projects in September 2020, with an estimated cost of Rs 862 crore. However, due to certain factors, the project cost has exceeded Rs 1000 crore.
- Quality Construction Materials: The new Parliament building showcases meticulous attention to detail. Over the course of its construction, approximately 26,045 metric tonnes of steel, 63,807 metric tonnes of cement, and 9,689 cubic meters of fly ash have been utilized, ensuring durability and strength.
The decision to embark on this monumental endeavor was driven by several reasons that aimed to address critical needs for our democratic system:
- Increased Seating Space: Anticipating a rise in the number of members in both houses after 2026, the new Parliament building offers ample seating arrangements to accommodate future legislators.
- Improved Infrastructure: Essential services such as sewer lines, fire-fighting systems, AC installations, and CCTVs have been incorporated to enhance functionality while maintaining aesthetic appeal.
- Enhanced Safety Measures: The existing building’s vulnerability to seismic activity, being in Seismic Zone-IV, raised concerns for the safety of our elected representatives. The new Parliament building integrates state-of-the-art safety features.
- Modern Workspace: Recognizing the importance of conducive work environments, the new Parliament building addresses the shortcomings of the current workspace, providing a contemporary and efficient setting for our dedicated employees.
