75 years have passed since India attained Independence from British domination, and post that, the Indian Constitution came into effect. Dr. Rajendra Prasad raised the Indian National Flag with a 21-gun salute. Three years later, in 1950, a new republic was established on 26 January, which we celebrate as Republic Day.

  • India didn’t have its constitution before Independence. The Government of India Act 1935 served as the primary inspiration for the statutes.
  • Later on 29 August 1947, a resolution was passed designating Dr. BR Ambedkar as Chairman of the drafting committee to create our nation’s independence constitution.
  • Its guiding principles developed for around two years and eleven months in India. Finally, our Indian constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950.

Republic Day 2023 celebrations & things to notice in Rajpath Parade

The Indian people celebrate Republic Day, a historic day, with great fervour and pride. India will celebrate the 74th Republic Day on 26 January 2023.

  • There will be tableaus (Jhanki) showcasing the cultures of different states and departments of India.
  • The 15th President and 1st tribal President of India, Droupadi Murmu will attend her first Republic Day in 2023.
  • Among the large crowd, a great parade will pass earlier at Kartavya Path and later at Rajpath.
  • The chief guest of Republic Day 2023 will be the President of Arab Egypt— Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He, himself, is a retired military officer and has been serving Egypt since the year 2014.
  • To honour the bravery, the Indian President will award the great heroes of India in the armed forces, civilians, or other individuals for their brave acts in the nation’s service.
  • For the first time post-Independence, there shall be a parade of BSF women contingent riding camels in the 2023 Republic Day parade.
  • People can expect several firsts in the NCC contingent too.
