Congress MP Santokh Singh Chowdhary, during his Bharat Jodo visit, was taken in an ambulance to a hospital in Ludhiana, where he died. Santokh Singh Chowdhary was the MP from Jalandhar. It is being told that Santokh Singh Chaudhary died of a heart attack. He participated in Bharat Jodo Yatra today along with Rahul Gandhi. It is being told that earlier he complained of cold and his health deteriorated. After this he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Where the doctors declared him dead.
Congress MP Manish Tiwari narrated the whole incident
Describing the incident as tragic, Congress MP Manish Tiwari told that Santokh Singh Chaudhary was walking some distance with him on Bharat Jodo Yatra and we were together half an hour ago. He said that suddenly he saw an ambulance taking him away. The Congress MP said that he was wearing a black track suit and when we saw each other, we greeted each other. Manish Tiwari further said that he was our elder and we lived together for many years. He said that the Bharat Jodo Yatra has been postponed for the time being.
After the death of Santokh Singh Chaudhary, Rahul Gandhi has stopped the Bharat Jodo Yatra for the time being. The yatra was going towards Phagwara from Ladowal Toll Plaza in Ludhiana today. Santokh Singh Chaudhary’s health deteriorated at 8.45 am. After which Rahul Gandhi also reached the hospital to see him. But the Congress MP died. Political journey of Santokh Singh Choudhary
It is to be known that Santokh Singh Chowdhary had won the parliamentary election from Jalandhar constituency of Punjab. In 1978, Santokh Singh Chaudhary became the Senior Vice President of Punjab Youth Congress. After this, in the year 1987, Chowdhary was made the President of Jalandhar (Rural) District Congress Committee. In the year 1992, he won his first assembly election and became the MLA from Pillaur seat
In the year 1992, he became the General Secretary of Punjab Congress Legislature Party. In 1995, Santokh became Principal Parliamentary Secretary (in charge of Rural Development and Panchayats, Parliamentary Affairs and Power Department). He was later made the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in the Government of Punjab. After this he was the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies in the cabinet.
In the year 1997, Santokh Choudhary was elected as the General Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and held the post for about a year. In the year 2002, he was elected as a member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly by winning the Pilhaur Assembly seat on a Congress ticket. Then from 2004 to 2010 he was the Vice President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha in the year 2014 from Jalandhar constituency in Punjab by defeating Pawan Kumar Tinu of SAD party.
