Asia’s first woman loco pilot Surekha Yadav has taken command of Vande Bharat Express. With this, Asia’s first woman loco pilot Surekha Yadav has now become the first woman to drive the semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express train.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav tweeted, “Vande Bharat powered by Nari Shakti. Smt. Surekha Yadav, the first woman loco pilot of Vande Bharat Express.”
Yadav hails from Satara in the western Maharashtra region. Yadav became India’s first woman train driver in 1988. He has won many awards at the state and national level for his achievements so far.
According to railway officials, loco piloting on new routes involves extensive learning and the crew has to remain alert at all times during the train journey. According to a press release from the Central Railway, they operated the semi-high speed train between Solapur station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai.
The train reached CSMT five minutes before the scheduled time of arrival, said a Central Railway release, adding that on completing the over 450 km long journey, Yadav was felicitated at platform number 8 of CSMT. “The process of crew learning includes signal obedience, hands on new equipment, coordination with other crew members, following all parameters for train running,” the release said.
