A power transformer explosion on the banks of the Alaknanda river in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district resulted in 15 fatalities and multiple injuries, an official said on Wednesday.
The bridge spans the Alaknanda River and is a component of the Namami Gange project. Five of the injured are being treated at Chamoli’s Gopeshwar government hospital, while two are receiving care at AIIMs.
A police sub-inspector and three home guards are among the approximately 15 fatalities. An investigation is in progress. Prima Facie indicates that there was current on the railing, and further information would be revealed by the investigation, according to State Director General of Police V Murugesan, as reported by the news agency ANI.
