BJP’s national executive meeting is being held in Delhi on 16 and 17 January. The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and party president JP Nadda, including all general secretaries, chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, all state presidents and other officials. The meeting is considered important because it will decide on the tenure of JP Nadda.

JP Nadda’s term ends on January 23. It is believed that Nadda can be given an extension till 2024 considering only one year’s time in the Lok Sabha elections. On the other hand, it is also being said that the defeat of BJP in his home state Himachal Pradesh may also fall on Nadda. Although it is less likely.

The chances of Nadda getting an extension are also high because there are elections for 9 assemblies to be held at the end of this year. At the same time, elections are expected to be held in Jammu and Kashmir between May and June. In such a situation, BJP does not seem ready to take the risk of change in the organization.

Even then, if there is no consensus on the name of JP Nadda for some reason, then Bhupendra Yadav is said to be at the forefront of the race for the post of president. At the same time, the name of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is also in discussions. There is every possibility of Gujarat BJP President CR Patil getting important responsibility at the Centre.
