Goddess Shailputri is the first of the nine forms of goddess Durga that devotees worship on the first day of the nine days of the Navratri festival. Each day of this festival is dedicated to one of the forms of Maa Durga and in the course of the same, Chaitra Navratri Day 1 is the day of Maa Shailputri.
Navratri consists of two words, meaning ‘Nine Nights’. During these nine nights, devotees worship Maa Durga to attain positivity, optimism, and fruitful results in their lives . Navratri is from March 22, 2033. People worship all the nine different forms of Maa Durga i.e. Mata Shailputri, Mata Brahmacharini, Mata Chandraghanta, Mata Kushmanda, Mata Skandamata, Mata Katyayani, Mata Kalaratri, Mata Mahagauri, and Mata Siddhidatri.
According to Hindu mythology, Shailputri is a Sanskrit name, which means daughter of the mountain, hence the name Shailputri. According to a legend, Maa Durga was born in the house of Parvat Raj Himalaya (King of the Himalayas), hence her incarnation was named Shailputri. The name of the king of the Himalayas was Hemavan, she was also known by the name Hemavati.
