WhatsApp Introduces Message Editing Feature, Allowing Users to Make Changes within 15 Minutes

WhatsApp, the popular instant-messaging service owned by Meta, has announced that it will soon enable users to edit their sent messages, aligning with competitors like Telegram and Signal. The new feature will grant users the ability to make edits within a 15-minute timeframe after sending a message, providing more control over their chats.

With over 2 billion users worldwide, WhatsApp is eagerly rolling out this editing feature in the coming weeks. This move is particularly significant for WhatsApp’s largest market, India, which boasts 487 million users. The capability to rectify misspellings or add additional context to a message aims to enhance the overall user experience.

WhatsApp’s editing process is simple and user-friendly. Users can long-press on a sent message and select the “Edit” option from the menu within the specified 15-minute window. The edited messages will be labeled as “edited” to ensure transparency, although recipients will not be able to view the specific modifications made.

The introduction of this editing feature by WhatsApp follows similar implementations by messaging services such as Telegram and Signal. Facebook, the parent company of WhatsApp, introduced this functionality almost a decade ago. Facebook users are notified when a message has been edited, and a history of edits is available for reference. Twitter, another prominent social media platform, also offers editing capabilities for paying subscribers.
