The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
The incessant rainfall over the past few days has prompted this cautionary measure. Thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy downpours are expected in West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand over the next five days, as stated in the IMD bulletin.
Uttarakhand on alert as monsoon continues to wreak havoc
Uttarakhand is facing a monsoon onslaught, with heavy rain predicted until July 5. The Director of the Meteorological Department, Bikram Singh, has urged people to avoid travel during rainfall and take precautions.

The state administration has deployed teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along the Amarnath Yatra route and sensitive areas prone to disasters. Additionally, an orange alert has been issued in eight districts of Uttarakhand due to the heavy rainfall.
Himachal Pradesh bracing for heavy rainfall and seeking relief assistance
Heavy to moderate rains persist in Himachal Pradesh, prompting the weather department to issue warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall at isolated places until July 1.
Tourists are advised to avoid venturing near rivers and drains and stay informed through the IMD app. The state has suffered significant damage to roads, water schemes, and crops due to the rain and floods. Himachal Congress president Pratibha Singh has called for a special relief package from the Union government to accelerate rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.

Floods and waterlogging impact parts of Goa and Maharashtra
Incessant rain has caused flooding in several parts of Panaji, the capital city of Goa. Workers from the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) are working to clear the drains blocked with garbage.
Similarly, Gondia and Bhandara districts in eastern Maharashtra have witnessed heavy rainfall, leading to the opening of gates at the Pujaritola dam. Authorities have advised residents living near riverbanks to remain vigilant. Mumbai and surrounding districts are also on alert with yellow and orange alerts issued due to expected heavy rainfall in the coming days.
