Bus Accident near Jammu: 8 Pilgrims Killed as Bus Falls into Gorge on Amritsar-Katra Route

A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning near Jhajjar Kotli, around 35 km from Jammu, as a bus carrying over 75 pilgrims from Amritsar to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra veered off a bridge and plunged into a gorge. The incident resulted in the loss of eight lives, while around 12 individuals sustained injuries.

According to local police officers, rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene to assist the injured and transport them to nearby medical facilities. Witnesses reported feeling a sudden jolt before the bus toppled over the bridge. Eyewitnesses estimate that approximately eight to ten individuals lost their lives in the tragic accident.

This unfortunate incident marks the second such occurrence in the area since May 21. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, including the possibility of driver error or brake failure. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at Jammu’s Government Medical College and Hospital, as well as a primary health center in Jhajjar Kotli.

The local community, along with police and CRPF officials, provided immediate assistance, by aiding those affected by the accident.
