Cyclone Biparjoy, which had been developing in the Arabian Sea for several days, has now weakened into a ‘deep depression’ after making landfall along Gujarat’s coast on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the cyclone is expected to further weaken into a ‘depression’ within the next few hours.

Following the cyclone’s heavy rainfall, areas in Mandvi have experienced waterlogging. This weather event, named ‘Biparjoy,’ meaning “disaster” in Bengali, has transitioned from a ‘very severe’ category to ‘severe’ after hitting Gujarat’s coastal regions.

Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, expressed gratitude to the emergency response teams for their efforts in dealing with the calamity without any casualties.

As the cyclone weakened into a deep depression over the Saurashtra-Kutch region, Patel acknowledged the coordinated work of the NDRF, SDRF, and other agencies in mitigating damage caused by the cyclone.

According to the IMD’s latest update, Cyclone Biparjoy weakened into a ‘deep depression’ at 11:30 pm on Friday, over Southeast Pakistan near Southwest Rajasthan and Kutch, approximately 100 km northeast of Dholavira. The IMD anticipates further weakening into a ‘depression’ over the next 12 hours.
