Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out a successful operation on Friday, confiscating 10 tons of single-use plastic. The BMC utilized five dumpers to handle the massive amount of plastic waste. A penalty of ₹50,000 was imposed on the offender, Amrish Plastic located in Goda Nakkas. The raid was conducted in the presence of teams from the MP Pollution Control Board and district administration.

In an ongoing effort, the BMC has been conducting raids in various markets to crack down on the use of single-use plastic. Previous raids were conducted at New Market and Bittan Market. Bhopal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has been actively involved in creating awareness among traders, encouraging them to refrain from promoting single-use plastic. They have successfully made New Market plastic bag-free, with customers encouraged to bring their own cotton bags.
The enforcement of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, along with subsequent amendments, provides a legal framework for the ban on specific single-use plastic items. These identified items, known for their low utility and high littering potential, have been prohibited since July 1, 2022, throughout the country.
