Maa Skandamata rides on a lion and has four arms. Along with this, the child Skanda, i.e., Kartikeya sits on his lap with a lotus flower in one of her arms. The upper arm of his left side is called Varamudra, and the lower arm has another white lotus flower. Mata is also called Padmasana because of having a seat on a lotus flower. According to the belief, the knowledge of the person increases by worshipping Goddess Skandamata with a true heart. It is the reason why she is also known as Vidyavahini Durga.
