Manali : Cops registered FIR against MC’s Sweeper for poisoning 6 stray dogs , one died
The Manali police have registered an FIR against a sweeper of the local municipal committee (MC) for allegedly poisoning a dog.
A local resident had lodged a complaint that the sweeper had poisoned his dog on Tuesday and an FIR was registered in the matter on Wednesday. Manali DSP KD Sharma said a postmortem has been done to ascertain the cause of the dog’s death.
Police said the complainant was a caretaker and cook in a hotel. During investigation, it was found that an NGO working for stray dogs had allegedly persuaded her to lodge the complaint. The complainant allegedly did not even know the name of the MC worker.
MC President Chaman Kapoor said that the sweeper was only taking out the dead body of the dog, when the NGO officials made a video of it. He said that he had received a complaint that a dog had gone mad. That’s why he had given instructions to take immediate action. When the MC personnel reached the spot, the dog was dead.
Kapoor alleged that the office-bearers of the NGO, hailing from Assam and Bihar, had approached the civic body last year to get stray dogs sterilised. The MC had agreed to provide land and bring stray dogs for sterilization, but the NGO was demanding Rs 3,000 per dog and there are around 1,000 stray dogs in Manali and its suburbs.
