Suspected Food Poisoning Incident, More Than 150 People Fall ill After Consuming ‘Prasad’ in Uttar Pradesh
In a concerning incident, more than 150 people, including 35 children, have fallen ill after consuming ‘prasad’ (a religious offering) during a religious event in Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident is believed to be a case of food poisoning, as individuals began experiencing severe stomach pain and dysentery around 11:30 pm on Wednesday night.

The affected individuals received medical attention from the health department, with 73 of them undergoing treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia district hospital and another 80 being cared for in the village by a team of doctors. The ‘prasad’ was distributed to devotees at a religious gathering near a government school in Chandel village, where they were served ‘poori-sabzi and lal chanaa’ (fried bread, vegetable curry, and red gram).
Dr. Avanindra Kumar, the Chief Medical Officer, stated that none of the hospitalized individuals or those in the village were in critical condition. The health department is closely monitoring the situation, ensuring necessary measures are taken to address the outbreak.
