New Delhi/Kolkata: Cyclone Mocha has rapidly intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm in the southeast and adjoining areas of the central Bay of Bengal, according to officials. With this development, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed eight teams and 200 rescuers in West Bengal to tackle any potential emergencies. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has also placed its units on high alert in the region. The cyclone is expected to make landfall along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, accompanied by powerful winds of up to 150-160 km per hour.

Warning issued for coastal areas and Neighbouring States
Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, and south Assam are also expected to experience heavy showers and rain at isolated places, as forecasted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has issued warnings advising fishermen and travelers to avoid venturing into the central and northeast Bay of Bengal and the north Andaman Sea until Sunday. Furthermore, the IMD has predicted a storm surge of 1.5-2 meters for the low-lying coastal region near Cox’s Bazaar in Bangladesh. Emergency operation centers are operating round the clock to handle any natural calamities that may arise from the cyclone.
