In a devastating incident on Monday night, a gunman wearing a bulletproof vest unleashed a hail of bullets in Philadelphia, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuring two others, according to the police.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw confirmed that all the victims were male. The suspect was apprehended without resistance in an alley and was found in possession of a bulletproof vest, multiple magazines, an “AR-type rifle,” a handgun, and a police scanner.

Outlaw expressed that the motive behind the attack remains unknown, stating that the assailant deliberately targeted individuals after leaving their residence.

This tragic event follows another shooting that took place at a block party in Baltimore the previous day, which claimed the lives of two people and left 28 others wounded. The injured victims in Baltimore ranged from 13 to 32 years old, with more than half of them being minors, as reported by officials.

The incident in Philadelphia now marks the 29th mass killing in the United States this year, according to a database compiled by The Associated Press, USA Today, and Northeastern University. These distressing statistics reveal that the nation has witnessed the highest number of mass killings and deaths in a single year up to this point.

The database further indicates that since 2006, there have been over 550 incidents of mass killings, resulting in the loss of at least 2,900 lives and injuring at least 2,000 individuals.
